Chrysler key replacement

Whether your fob is on the fritz or you’ve broken your physical key in the lock, you’re in need of Chrysler key replacement. Easier said than done! Not every mechanic or auto locksmith has the tools or knowhow to work on these cars.
But, we’re proud to say that Chrysler owners can count on Red Key in Rochester NY and surrounding areas! We’ve got spare keys in our inventory and plenty of experience with Chrysler to get you a new set as soon as possible. Here are a few things you might want to know about the process!

First, we’ll ask you about the kind of Chrysler you drive
Chrysler has used different styles of keys over the years, which is why our first order of business will be to determine which one you need. Here are a few of the most common options:
- Traditional manual key. If your Chrysler was built before 1998, you probably use a physical key, which may or may not be high security. Some common varieties include the Y152, which is compatible with early- and pre-1990’s Chryslers or the Y157, P1794 Chrysler key, which covers models between 1994 and 2000.
- Transponder chip key. In the late 1990’s, Chrysler followed the lead of many car manufacturers by installing a transponder chip in the plastic casing of their keys. These were the norm from the early 2000s until around 2011. The key model number Y164 is a common replacement for Chrysler transponder keys.
- Keyless fob. As technology advanced, Chrysler introduced their keyless fobs, which allow owners to lock, unlock, and open the trunk without a physical key. These fobs also have a physical key housed within the casing of the fob for emergencies. Replacements for Chrysler keyless fobs are less universal than with traditional keys or transponder chip keys, which is why we’ll need more specific information on your car’s model and year in order to match a compatible replacement. For instance, the M3M-40821302 is only compatible with Chrysler 200s from 2015 to 2017. Similarly, the key model FCC ID OHT692427AA is only compatible with the Chrysler Sebring Convertible.
Chrysler key replacement requires two steps: cutting and programming
Once we’ve got your spare key in hand, it will be time to cut and, in some cases, program it to your car.
Let’s start with cutting. This process requires a specialized machine that can laser-cut high security car keys. Not all locksmiths have them, but as auto locksmiths, we can oversee car key cutting here at Red Key.
Now, onto programming. This process won’t be necessary if you’re replacing a traditional key. But transponder chip keys and keyless fobs both require programming.
In the case of transponder chip keys, the programming process includes copying the static or rolling code from the previous key or your car’s electronic control unit (ECU) onto the blank key. This will allow you to use your new key without it being rejected by your car’s anti-theft technology.
Keyless fobs are a bit more complex in terms of programming. These devices require us to access your car’s operating system with the use of a car key programming machine. While most auto locksmiths have some version of this machine, not all have invested in the necessary software to program keys from a wide variety of car manufacturers. Here at Red Key, our programming machine covers various Chrysler models so that we can cut and program your new fob.

Call us for key extraction and replacement
We often get called for Chrysler key replacement after a car owner lost their keys or their fob stopped working. But every once in a while, we hear from a client who broke their key in the lock or ignition.
If this happens, don’t touch it! We’ll come to your location with car key extraction tools to safely remove the fragmented key. By trying to force the key out of the cylinder, you could risk damaging the internal mechanisms of the lock or ignition, which will require further repair or replacement.
